well as you can see I have a hard time picking just one. I like the Double Trouble you wont find me in the marsh without one. The hedge short barrel I like very well too, and there is a green Swamp Thing that can spit feathers with the best of them. That is the top three of what I have right at this time.

It is kind of my place of motivation.....all three cups are second place all around the walls in that room are second and third place plaques from various contests. I am determined to win just one sanctioned contest some day if it is the end of me. That whole thing keeps me motivated to practice until my lips turn blue, and my toungue goes numb.

Goose.....Of course you can touch them if you are in the neighborhood give me a call you can blow every call in the collection if you want.

There is not a thing wrong with blowing a $30 call if you blow it well and are confident in it. I buy some of those every year. Many of them are very capible calls.

Sp My wife is very easy going, and I can not even put into words how suportive she is of the contest thing. She does question why I need so many calls. I tell her the truth I don't need them but I really enjoy collecting them, buying, selling, trading, trying out all the new stuff. She has never gotten mad at me for it though she just looks at me once in a while when I am in there...smiles and shakes her head like "what am I going to do with him?" I guess she still kinda likes me.

Bret,

I blow a Betts as well for competition calling. Do you have any problems in the field with it sticking?
I usually only use acrilycs when hunting people instead of ducks  , but I do use them in high pressured areas and windy days.
Did you competition call in Burlington, Ia the last couple of years?

no I have not attended that contest yet I would like to though. I think I am going to K.C. this year though. I blow a new rowdy DOA Xtreme now days. I collect comp calls and Wayne makes a great call that call was a gift from my wife last christmas. I had wanted one for a long time. It runs as smooth as any call I have ever blown, has wonderful tone and reasonable volume. I have not in honesty hunted with it so I do not know if it sticks most comp style calls have a low reed set and will be prone to that. I know that new buck gardner mainstreet won't. I do blow acrylics in the field just toned down acrylics timber type calls or mid volume calls, and sometimes like you said even a comp call in the condition where high volume is important. Sticking has not been a huge problem for me recently. I used to struggle with that, and I wish I could tell you what changed but I just don't know. I don't spit as much and I don't know why.

do you have a Betts timber? What do you think of it?I want to try one of those one of these days.

I don't have the timber. I have not tried it either. I love the Betts call that I do have. I could not find a call that you could get such volume on the high end and still "whisper" on the low end. It actually behaves like a double reed on the low end and a single on the top. I was impressed.
You ought to come on over next year. Heck bring the whole family because the contest will most likely be held at the Best Western Pzazz where they are currenty building an indoor waterpark, massive sportsbar, indoor putput, bowling alley, rollercoaster, etc.....
This year we had Barnie Calef, Tim and Hunter(with entourage), Kelly Powers, Bernie Boyle(hometown hero), etc.... Come on over for a good time

Bret,

Have you tried Bernie's new Mallard Mauler that he won Stutt. on?
I fell in love with an ice blue one. I am intrigued with the Betts timber though. I will have to try it out when Wayne comes up next year.

Well I may try if I don't qualify here I may head to MI. or MIN. though. have not blown Bernies MM I would not mind it though. From everything I know, and have seen listed he is still blowing that same sweet old Echo Boss on stage though. If I were him I would not give it up either that call flat thumps with his lips to it.
