A very special call

This last weekend I was in K.C. at Cabelas grand slam. I was very lucky to be introduced to a local legend by the name of Don Dennis. MR. Dennis is a comp caller from way back I believe he said 1966 Kansas state champ. He was a multiple qualifier to the worlds in those days, I think finishing fifth or something for his best. He was extremely nice to me and entertained my drilling of " how calling had changed from back then". He even bought my breakfast...what a guy. I was then blessed with the opertunity to blow some of MR. Dennis' hand turned duck calls. I was expecting some old out of date calls that belonged on the mantle, but were no longer comparably functional. What I saw was some very functional Ark style calls that many years of craftsmanship have perfected "feather spittin' duck". I fell in love with one and could not leave it there. I did not need another call, but you can just feel the tradition and hand made American Craftsmanship that is so hard to find these days with every breath you put into it. If any of you have the pleasure of talking with MR. Dennis and trying one of his calls by all means do so. He is part of a dying breed of traditional callmakers. I was impressed by his knowledge and even more by his art form. I will post a picture of my call when I get a chance to take one. It is burnt BoisD'Ark and very realistic sounding. Anyone interested in his contact info PM me I think I still have it. I would also be happy to send out a file to some with the sounds of his wonderfull little call.

What an experience.
