Pics of Tarjac in Max4?

Postby Nerdwick » Thu Jan 26, 2012 5:04 am

Do you guys have any pics of your shotguns done by Tarjac in max4?

Only reason I ask is that is seems that some companys Max4 seems darker than others.

Thanks.

I saw a video on YouTube recently of a guy who was showing off his SBE1 that was dipped by Tarjac. Look really good. Just search Super Black Eagle and it should pop up somewhere in that list.

Hey guys,
I just got an 870 back that I had dipped in Max4 from Tarjac. Here are some pictures (sorry about quality from my phone).

What do you think?

I had it sprayed with basecoat, dipped, and coated with matte clear. The little bit of shine is bc I just wiped it down with G96 gun treatment. It was quite dull initially and I'm confident the finish will dull once the protectant wears off. Do you guys know if there is a specific product to use on these finishes? Anyone use G96? Thoughts on if it is ok?

After you get your gun back I would recommend going through everything and cleaning it well. There was overspray and little spots of surface rust in the receiver and on some of the trigger components. I wasn't thrilled to see that. I'm guessing from the water in the dipping process because I went through and cleaned this gun thoroughly just before i sent it in . The overspray came off very easily with hoppes and 0000 steel wool. The reason I had the gun dipped was because it rusted so easily so maybe your guns won't have the surface rust in the receiver but I was shocked to see it on the trigger components.

The action was a little stiff when i got it back. There was overspray on the slide rails and after cleaning that off and in the receiver it is a lot better. The safety was also stiff and I went in and picked the coating off the safety and cleaned it up and that's better now too.

Overall I'm happy- I think it looks great.

I killed close to 300 ducks and geese with this last season.

I agree, a camo gun isn't necessary- I'd probably avoid a blued barrel bc it shines so much but any dull black gun should be fine- especially if your are concealed and don't move. I got the gun dipped because of the finish on the newer Remington guns is terrible and will form surface rust incredibly quickly- I tried so many different products and protectants and none of them seemed to help for more than a day or so.

As far as ammo goes rogers has cases of federal speedshock steel, 12ga 3 inch 1 1/4oz or 1 1/8 oz for $99 free shipping/no tax- have not seen a better deal around.

The only reason that I had both of my guns dipped was that they both were over 20 years old and had very lil of the factory finish left on them and both guns have seen thousands of rounds fired through them. All I was looking to do was give a new life to a pair of old friends

Good reason. I have an OLD Remington that I've worn the blue off, re-blued, worn off, and re-blued again.
I'm kinda scared of dipping. I wonder if water gets under the 'dip' and you know the rest.
Educate me. I'll listen.

Check out this video for more info dipping & Tarjac:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQ7ON8GlZkM&feature=player_embedded

The process stats with a base coat of paint so as long as surface prep is adequate I feel comfortable that it would be good corrosion protection- Just like any other painted metal surface. If chips and scratches developthere would be risk for moisture penetrating under the finish. What are others thoughts on this? Is anyone using anything on their dipped guns as a protectant? I used G96 and will likely continue unless convinced otherwise. What do people think about wax?

Factory camo guns have been around for 20 plus years and I have not seen any issues with rust on them and it is the same presses at Tarjac uses.I have not had to wipe my gun down yet but I think that I will just keep doing what I had done before and use a litely oiled rag to wipe it down

I wouldn't have a waterfowl gun that is not camo after the service I have gotten over the last 10 years of running my camo guns. They have gotten soaked more times than I care to remember with not a hint of rust. Best protection out there IMO.
