Depending on what paint he used, it might come off with brake cleaner. I have hit a few guns that had paint on camo finishes and washed it right off with non-clorinated brake cleaner. saves a lot of work with strippers and if do not use them properly you can easily lift the grain of the wood. if you have to use stripper I second the orange citrus stripper, works great for removing spray paints.
