Postby hsfd199 » Tue Aug 28, 2012 7:58 pm

Im looking to replace the white sight on my super x3 and replacing it with a fiber optic sight. Is it something i can do or do i need to take it somewhere? Also what is a good optic sight to put on it. Thanks for any input.

You can take it off and put a new one on your self. To take it off just in screw with a small pair of needle nose pliers.

It isn't quite that easy, Browning/Winchester use a cheap potmetal under the white plastic bead and it has thread locker on it.

Remove the choke tube and pop the bead off and you will see the grooved potmetal stud. Clean the groove out and find a good fitting screwdriver, heat the barrel with a hair dryer until you can't touch it, use the screwdriver and gently remove the stud.

The stud thread should be 3mm x .5mm, if you happen to break the stud, more than likely, drill out the center and use the smallest easy out you can find, like a #0 or #1, can't remember, and gently ease it out and chase the threads. Make sure when buying a replacement it isn't a universal and is made of metal.

Just leave the stock sight in place and stick a Champion EasyHit on the rib just behind it. I've got one on each of my hunting guns... going on I think 5 season on the oldest one. They just stick on the rib with a double back tape strip, been through every weather situation you could imagine hunting in and shows no signs of peeling off or separating at all.

I broke my bead off when I tried to unscrew it. I ended up taking it to a gunsmith and had a fiber one put on for around $80.00

Expensive fix. tywhite had a better fix for about $50 or $60 less than what you just did. :hi:
