Cutting down and rethreading a barrel

Postby gmkempf » Tue Dec 25, 2012 6:06 pm

After season I am thinking of having my 28" barrel cut down to 24" and have it rethreaded. Who do you guys recommend. Thanks for your info.

buying a barrel that's brand new and manufactured by the maker of the shotgun you own makes more sense to an old fart like me.

You didn't specify which gun, but that might be easier said than done. the reason is that it will depend on the thickness of the barrel and the diameter of the bore once it's cut. Barrels are tapered from chamber to bore after it's cut, the bore might be too large to thread another choke. The bore will need to be slightly smaller to cut threads. I have had the same problem with my Winchester X2 that i damaged the barrel on. but if you are still driven to try rather than buy a new barrel than i went through R and D custom barrel service. Bob is a good guy who really knows his stuff. http://www.americhoke.com/
