DIY: Shorten Browning Maxus lenght of pull

Postby mnsoda » Wed Mar 06, 2013 11:13 pm

Greetings,
Just got introduced to the sport of waterfowl hunting and just purchased my first shotgun 1 month ago. After some research and advice from friends, I went and got the Browning Maxus in duck-blind with 28" barrel and 3 1/2 load. However being 5' 5" the LOP was too long for me. With no other stock to replace this I decided to trim the stock so it would fit me better. With the pad off, the gun shouldered a lot better so ideally I wanted the stock to be the length of the stock minus the pad when completed. I ending up taking about 6/10 of an inch so I can retain the screw holes and not interfere with the locking nut for the stock. It turned out great and made a world of a difference. It came out to be 13 1/2 all said and done. The top is slightly intruding, with the toe of the pad extending less than 1/4" which was not a problem. Just taped and measured and made the cut with a hack saw. Also changed the spacer to lower the drop of comb. Just wanted to share, maybe this can help other shooters as well.

Cheers,
Steve

Good Job , that's exactly how I did my Gold . Measure twice , cut once !

It looks like you stayed with negative pitch ?

Also , with short'ning a stock guns become a little barrel heavy ( not balanced ) so , by adding some weight in the stock
makes for a better handling gun.....sometimes just a few oz's will do !
