If available for your gun I would look into the Hevi Shot MR Choke Tube.

I have been kind of obsessed with this very question.....bottom line....after patterning Kicks, Patternmaster, and Carlson's (full) on my Benelli SBE2 the very best choke for (Hevi Metal) BB's and triple BB's, geese, has been the improved cylinder choke (Crio) that came with the gun. For number 3 and 4, Hevi Metal, ducks, the Kicks full patterned very well. I'm very confident and successful with this combo for the SBE2......Oh yea, use 3.5" for BB's and 3" for the 3's and 4's.....

My field observations of my old hunting partner's use of Hevi-metal was that it needed to be choked tighter. The Hevi-shot ER choke made it take birds cleaner (less cripples) then the Mid Range choke. On paper they are a spreader load and need more choke. I personally won't spend the money on it.

Over decoys I personally like the Mid Range choke, especially for ducks. Its all personal preference if you are used to shooting a more open choke, MR is for you, if you like a tighter choke, obviously ER.

Really, none of them matter as it spreads out pretty much with whatever tube is in the bore.

Buy the most expensive one you can find , thinking , if you have money to burn on those novelty loads , you need
a pretty choke to go along with those gold looking shells that are no more effective at 40 + yds , than good steel loads !

Come-on ? :lol3:

I could NOT get good patterns with the Hevi Metal loads that I tried past 35 yards.(from my 10's or my 12's) After I shot up all the Hevi Metal 12 loads, I received a Hevi Shot waterfowl choke tube (Browning Invector Plus Extreme Range) for my Maxus. I am VERY pleased with this choke. This choke does VERY well for me with #2, #4 and #6 Federal Heavy Weight loads (3 1/2 inch 1 3/8 oz). I get great patterns with the steel loads I tried also (#1, #2 and #3 shot 3 inch 1 1/4 oz). I was very surprised at this choke. With the #2 steel loads (Federal Heavy High Velocity red box) I was getting mid to upper 80% at 40 yards. I never shot any Hevi Metal loads with this choke and can not say what the results would be. The Hevi Metal loads I did try did not do very well for me when I tried more choke ( a lot of holes, shot clumps in the center and when I was picking up the wads some of them still had shot in them).

( To the question ) The best I can explain what I think is , when your friend reaches for a Box of Heavy Metal....you ....
take both of you hands and put them around his neck , choking him until he realizes he doesn't need to spend that much
money on a box of Good Round steel shot shells that will kill birds just as far ( maybe farther )than those in that pretty
Gold Box , that caught his eye ! Yes and the 2 of you will have money to buy some extra beers while you're
looking at the days limits of birds .

What you're observing (IMO) is most of the Hevi Shot Pro Staffers acting like Hevi Shot Post Puffers in order to get a good post count which likely leads to better largess from HQ.

No I would say if you spent your money on a quality choke for (ANY) duck gun you would be money ahead with just
good round (same size) steel shot in the payload of your choice , which is a lot cheaper and in most cases Better at
killing birds dead in the air .

i kinda have to agree i run 3" kent faststeel #4`s through my 935 ultimag mossberg along with a kicks high flyer extra full and its a beast. I rarely have to follow up shots once the bird is down. I will say it does make a difference to have the right choke for the right shot. like wearing a shoe thats too big or one thats too small. I went through several manufactuers before finding the best choke for my mossy. Just keep your eye on kicks and find the shell that works best the worse thing i did was trying to fit chokes to a particular round. Find the best shell not the best choke ;)
