I can only offer my my experience doing this on 3 3" chambered guns ! These guns are older Wingmaster 870's and
they do have thicker barrel walls , being full choked as they were I started out with a .037 constriction . I opened them
up in .005 increments ( patterned them ) trying different shot sizes until I got the patterns I wanted . I am satisfied with
a constriction of .017 , this fixed choke will handle # 3's through BBB's ( very nicely I might add ) , for me ! And , I've shot
thousands of steel shot loads through these barrels .
I ( wouldn't ) say the same if your gun and chamber is 2 3/4" as the barrels had thinner barrel walls back then ?

I would send the gun to Mike Orlen, he is the moderator of the gunsmith forum over on SGW http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewfor ... 2f8309b064 and comes highly recommended. He charges $55 to install choke tubes and $45 to ream a choke. http://users.dls.net/~rdouglas/MikeOrlen.pdf

Mike does great work!

It may not be your style, but you might consider installing a Polychoke.
