Need help with front bead sight

Postby REM1100 » Sat Sep 20, 2008 10:05 pm

I have a Rem 870 and Rem 1100 and they both have vent ribs with a bead.
Last year I put on a TRU GLO snap on/glued low profile on m 870 in 1/1/2" green and it worked slick.
I went to a big dealer looked up the proper TRU GLO in green and the back of the box said it was for a 1/4 inch vent rib Rem and the dealer could not put it on as it seemed a bit" narrow.
Is it posssible some Rem vent ribs are 5/16.
Also I also had the option to change out the front bead with a glo drop.
I put the vice grips on the bead and could not turn the screw loose
Last night I checked the internet TRU GLO site and it indicated it was a screw job.

Is it possible that the bead is only a press in item and that TRU GLO has some info all screwed up and has discontinued the snap n option and only went with the slip on glue ones?

I have changed a LOT of Remington 1100, 11-87 and 870 front beads and they should just screw out.

Your rib should be a 5/16" not 1/4" anyway.

5/16 inch - Fits most Remington 870, 1100 and 11/87's. Also most Browning BPS, Citori and Gold's, Ithaca 37 and 87's, Benelli SBE and some older Mossbergs.

I just found out some of the earlier guns were of the press fit and have to be drilled and tapped for a 48 thread.
My 870 Express has a screw in bead and the older rem1100 has a press in bead

The vent rib is 5/16..thanks

I know this topic is a couple months old, but doe's anyone know when they started using the screw in beads? My 870 is about 13 years old. I have a stick on hi-vis sight on it now, but it gets rust under it from hunting in a saltwater marsh that is a pain in the *** to get off. I would like to take that sight off and just replace the bead.

Don't know when, but if yours is pressed in it isn't hard to tap threads...

Now I am really confused as I just order some rem parts from a gun parts dealer and they tell me all rem front beads are screwed in and a gunsmith has the correct tools/procedure to replace it...and the only pressed in beads are on the barrels with two beads on a raised vent rib
