Detroit?

Postby clampdaddy » Sun Jul 21, 2013 10:25 pm

I'm surprised that there hasn't been a Detroit bankruptcy thread yet. I think that we all knew it was going to happen but I'm mostly curious as to how our resident left leaning friends see it.

No that was covered under Bush's fault.

Or maybe it was the white's fault. Adding racist is unnecessary because only white people can be racist and they all are, well unless they vote Democrat.

We definitely know the people and politicians of Detroit had anything to do with it.

Hey he was an Illinois Republican.

Actually, probably a significant difference between Detroit and Chicago is the mob history and mentality. They actually want people to work and expect you to work and take care of your family. They want to control it all, but you are expected to earn and take care of your family.

Yes. Because you can damn sure bet that the current situation in Detroit will NOT be blamed on unions and the democratic machine/policies which have controlled Detroit for at least the last 50 years.

Because there is really no R to point the finger at, I suspect it will be the "well, it's actually a very complicated problem" excuses, to avoid pointing the finger where it needs to be pointed- spendthrift democratic policies, and crappy management.

Maybe.

Actually the Capone gang moved out of Chicago to get free reign in Cicero.

I knew it was just a matter of time.

From Ed Schultz, Democrat genius.
“Detroit, Michigan, used to be really a symbol of industrial strength and manufacturing in this country. But, thanks to a lot of Republican policies, the city is now filing for bankruptcy,” Schultz said over the weekend. Ed Schultz claimed that Detroit had filed for bankruptcy because the city had a government that was just too small. On Saturday, Schultz argued “Republican policies” led Detroit to become a “conservative utopia.”

The only part he was wrong about was the part about the "conservative utopia". The rest was spot on. It was a republican policy that killed Detroit. The policy is that when the left makes it hard to prosper, republicans get the hell outta Dodge. :lol3:

I am at a wedding shower for my nephew this past weekend. His future father in law is an engineer and owns his own business. Their business expertise is large lighting projects.

This is exactly what he told me during a casual conversation and I think perfectly exemplifies why Detroit has been ruined.
Two years ago, they were bidding on a lighting project to upgrade some portion of street lights and other city lighting. Naturally, there is a clause to use Minority Based (MBE) and Women Based Enterprises (WBE) and of course it has to have union labor. A “well connected” MBE is recommended to him by the purchasing agent.

He meets with the person and the person stops conversation and says, without even seeing the scope of work- “You will bid the work for 5.1 million. I will get 2.6 million because there are some people to pay.” After some back and forth, this engineer says he thinks the price is way too high and that he does not feel comfortable with what feels like an unethical approach.

Now pay attention. He decides to bid it without the democrat hack. The company finds others to work with to meet the standards and submits a bid for $1.6 million. The contract is awarded to the democrat hack for $5.1 million. The hack works with a substandard company and they complete only a portion of the work.

Prior to the contract award, this guy protests the award and the procurement people just shrug their shoulders. I am certain this has been the standard practice for this democrat controlled city for decades. It was just a giant parasite left unchecked until it killed the host.

Democrat politics combined with unions and democrat hacks have killed a once great city. But I am pretty sure it is Bush or maybe even Reagan’s fault.

But no worries, the useful idiots will keep voting democrat as they are not real bright people and are eager to blame anyone but the ones who deserve the blame.

Glad you guys solved that with only two things to blame. Unions and Democrats. :lol3: :lol3:

So in your opinion, what caused Detroit to declare bankruptcy?

I think there is an something implied here that is not true. Liberals don't believe they must pay their debts. The only problem with the bankruptcy of Detroit is that it will make it tougher for them to take more of OPM to spend wastefully. They really don't think the people running Detroit did anything wrong. They are Democrats and they have built an impenetrable power base of poverty and have achieved the only true objective that matters.

Goes well with that Detroit Tiger blood.

It's all whiteys fault. They made their 50 year exodus out of Detroit just to make their democrat controlled local government look bad.

You do have a point there.

Whitey has abandoned the sinking ship, which contributed to the death of a once great city.

"You have three choices in life.

Migrate, Adapt, or Go Extinct."

I guess Detroit has decided on going extinct.

I guess the middle class blacks are in on it as well.

As if the recession hadn’t battered Detroit enough, it must now grapple with an exodus of middle-class African-Americans
