go gecho Obamaphone

Postby Bloke » Fri Aug 02, 2013 9:04 am

Here is a good read about how the Obamaphone program is being exploited by cell companies and there is no oversight what so ever. Just free pickings for who ever is sorry enough to take advantage. This will not stop until someone actually decides to review the program and track the money. Sleep well knowing that all the presidents free bee programs are managed so well and going to individuals that are actually in need. Then again, when did phone service become a need???

The Federal Communications Commission oversees the so-called Lifeline program, created in 1984 to make sure impoverished Americans had telephone service available to call their moms, bosses, and 911.

It's Reagan's fault! :lol3:

So let's include a 1984's land line phone with no data and no text capability.

You're Obamaphone courtesy of the federal government.

Because it is not about ensuring bare minimum necessities, it's about spreading the wealth around.

ARGUABLY, a landline phone with no long distance service is an essential part of a bare minimum modern existence. Clearly, nobody is talking about caveman subsistence level as the threshold of "necessity" or whatever the bare minimum level.

However, everything above that bare minimum (whatever you think it is) is just spreading the wealth around. Working less than 80 hours a week is not a modern day necessity. Texting, internet access, long distance service, etc. are not a modern day necessity. Food is a necessity. Quality food beyond what many self-sufficient college kids consume is not. You can get more than adequately healthy foods for a $1 a person a meal. Do you need meat in the modern day? Many a liberal would argue that vegan is the way to go, so no, but you want to throw in some ground turkey with your rice-a-roni, you can still keep it to a $1 a meal per person per day. Hell, a foot long subway sub is only $5 and you can get 2 meals out of that if you need to. Load it up with all the veggies and what's the problem?

Now someday these things may be modern necessities, but we aren't there yet. Not even close.
