1. Seriously? You just lost all credibility you might have otherwise gained in my book. You want to engage in a spirited debate on the topic, fine. You want to reduce yourself to a school-yard pissing contest, well then don't use the word "intellectual" or any reference to it in your commentary. While I disagree with you on the topic, I was one step out of respecting you based upon deductive reasoning and a mature presentation. You lost me at "b#*!@ slapped".

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." That's the first amendment street...not the 14th.

This is the 14th:

"Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. I see where you are going, but I would argue that the first amendment protects your right to practice whatever religion you wish, but the 14th amendment actually applies enforcement when denied the first on the basis of discrimination. Wouldn't you think?

its not much different at all from the honey hole as far as the rules are concerned. the difference is the topic content. much the same as the difference between the dog forum and the shotshell forum. same rules, different subject.

the rules in this forum are the same, while affording more room for conflict by letting things slide a bit more that wouldnt fly in the honey hole. even if there werent ANY rules here, there still is no reason to bash each other over stupid arguements on the internet.

Had A2 and I not left warnings and things had remained civil it would not have resulted in the warning of locking the thread. We have made it very clear that personal bashing is not acceptable on DHC especially lately.

Besides. Gays can get married. There are churches that have been doing it for a long time. I know a guy that got married to another guy in PA about 15 years ago. It doesn't have the legal recognition, but there is absolutely nothing precluding gay couples from living in life long monogomous relationships and they can even go through a ceremony if they choose. So "getting married" is not the issue unless they are so insecure that they must get the blessing of other people. Polygamist have been doing it for decades. They only get in trouble when they start forcing minor girls to marry degenerate older men. When I married my wife, the legal papers had absolutely nothing to do with how I viewed our relationship or my commitment.

There are real issues associated with individual rights. Most of these apply to all single people, regardless of the reason that they are not married.

I can understand them wanting to have equal rights to benefits and such that are provided to married couples, however, what other can of worms does this open up?

Once you condone something, then other special interest groups will want their rights as well.

Someone that loves their sister and wants to get married.
A woman that loves more than one man, and wants them all as husbands.
A man that loves more than one woman, and wants them all as his wives.
Someone that loves a child under the age of 15 and wants to get married.

Why or how rather, do we continue to disallow those things if we allow gay marriage? Hence the reason to do something different, that would allow them the same benefits like shared health insurance, receiving of benefits, etc, but not having them be married.

I'm betting the multiple spouse things jumps up once gay marriage is accepted across the US, then after that the other issues will start to show up too.
