I work with some big brained Ph.D. types, along with people who are preparing to defend their dissertation, and as part of a doctoral research project, one candidate submitted identical questions to three groups of people (similar demographics and about 1000 people in each group).
The only difference was in the presentation of the lead-in sentences where the positions were described as – (1) Socialist, (2) Liberal or (3) Progressive.
Keeping in mind the positions were identical on each survey and very similar to the initial post here, when presented as Socialist ideas, they received almost no support. Labeled as Liberal, they received little support, but when presented as Progressive, it received about 50% support.
Scary, but it shows it is all in the packaging and that if given a choice, about 50% of the group surveyed would sign up for Communism today if it was called Progressive.
