Question for mods/Admin

Postby CLUTCHfan » Thu Jun 05, 2008 9:27 pm

I know I've seen on other forums where a particular forum was off limits to anyone not a member or logged in. I didn't know if that would be too complicated or something that people wouldn't be interested in. The Controversial Issues Forum tends to push the edge, and I didn't know if it would be a good idea to make it available to DHC members only. Just a thought, and I don't even know if everyone else would be interested in this.

I was not a part of the discussions but will make it a note to let Chris and A2 know you are asking.
Have you ever woke up one day and said. Damn when does the season start.

Huh? what's the advantage? Here's the problem as I see it. When you make something no hold barred or members only and no sensitive ears, it becomes a F'n fest and every other thing is uncivil. I don't have the temper to have someone go off on me, so I won't be on anything for those purposes. My blood pressure goes up high enough with my buddy dudeJCB already, and he doesn't cuss . If I am missing this, my bad.

i don't think people would start cussing because of it, there is still the possibility of getting banned and stuff like that.

The way I got it was that it would not allow lurkers mostly. But I might be wrong.

That's exactly it. I'm not saying there should be a special membership or password to see it, I just think it should be restricted to DHC members. I think lurkers could take the stuff on here out of context. I'm not trying to make it no-holds-barred, or a cuss-fest, or anything other than what it is right now. I think it's about perfect like it is. It might also encourage lurkers who might not have otherwise joined, to join.

You must be a member to post anywhere on DHC. "Guests" are not allowed to post.

Yes, we have to be members to post in a forum.
CLUTCHfan is describing a particular forum that cannot be read by visitors and unregistered members.

A visitor/lurker would not know of it's existence.

I don't even remember typing that. Must've still been drunk when I got up on Saturday. It may not be perfect, but it's definately better than what is was.

And, I wasn't talking about people being able to post, I was talking about access to the forum, so non-members would have to join to read it.

Hey jehler, suck it.

Jrock, if you think A2 is handsome, I'll send you some glamour shots of myself. Really get your engine revved up.

There's a forum on another site that has a "Politics" forum and a "Religion" forum that you have to sign in to read or post. This is separate from the normal log-in. The Mod has to approve your application to have access to the forums. I thought maybe that might be what was going to happen here with the "Controversial Issues" forum. I have no opinion either way, the same disagreements would happen no matter the process.

Oh I get it now! Its to keep people who just happen to google 'duck hunting' from seeing some off color rant that might be going on at any given moment.

That's a good idea.

Yeah, that's what I think the idea is. It might not be a bad idea. But even on the site I mentioned you have people that parachute in, do a drive by comment and then disappear. Of course that happens here now sometimes.
"It's May and I really need to kill some ducks, can any of you tell me how to go about doing so"? kind of comments.

you gotta watch out for those parachutists and drive by comment-ers

i wonder if they could make it so that unless you logged in, the controversy forum would not appear. and then when you log in, *presto* it appears and then a guy can have access.

Hey! Have you been looking at my butt on the sly? Knock it off as it is reserved exclusively for my gal to look at!

So which forum were you thinking to be a members only? I still do not see any advantage of doing a forum that way.
