550 Metric Tons of U208 found in Iraq

Postby Ned S » Fri Aug 01, 2008 12:58 pm

Why has this been "squashed" on TV. I heard it just once on Fox and it died. All those that said bush was lying about Nuke material in Iraq haven't said "squat". Did I miss it on this forum. There was fellow from Amarillo working for a company that had a contract with Iraq to build many under the sand concrete storage buildings. He said they would come back in a couple weeks after they were finished and all you saw was sand. You can make over 150 Nukes out of this Uranium. Ned S who was in the Nuke business for 45 yrs.

This was declared material. It was under IAEA surveillance. It is now in Canada.

The issue was that Iraq had discussion with a Niger about trade with a country that's major export is uranium. https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ng.html
Exports - commodities: uranium ore, livestock, cowpeas, onions

The reason for this meeting was the source of controversy. If Saddam was trying to restart his nuke development, he needed a source of uranium that was not under surveillance. Joe Wilson initial supported the British intelligence that Saddam had put feelers out for trade with Niger. Maybe Iraq was just looking to buy some cowpeas.

They did cover up a lot of the details about Saddam's many violations that were proven. They had WMD programs and supported terrorists, just never proven they had stockpiles of WMDs or specificially supported Al Qaeda. This wasn't one of those cases.

Ed H (aka SpinnerMan) in the nuke business for 20 years and counting.

There are no laws that require the press to report something, especially when they don't want to report it. So there you have it.

I find it equally frustrating because on multiple occasions our forces have discovered hundreds of missiles with chemical and biological warheads. Apparently those don’t count as weapons of mass destruction because they won’t reach Washington DC. I can assure you the Kurds and Iranians view them as WMDs.

 In all honesty, my dad works at the Oak Ridge National Lab (where they made the bombs that made Japan wish they never messed with us), and they got stuff from Iraq all the time.

Don,

They make the atomic powered boats that haul the weapons.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bettis_Atomic_Power_Laboratory

There may have been some research into the design of the weapons in the Pittsburgh area during the Manhattan Project. It was a huge effort and work was done all over the country, but the bulk of the work was done elsewhere. The enriched uranium was for the Hiroshima bomb was made at Oak Ridge, TN (like preacher said) and the plutonium for the first test explosion and the Nagasaki bomb were made at Hanford, WA. The weapons were developed at Los Alamos, NM. The first nuclear reactor was assembled and taken critical at the University of Chicago.
