Concealed Carry Class Input!

Postby HNTFSH » Mon Jan 17, 2011 10:48 am

Thought I'd post this here for any input as I pursue an Ohio CCW...Gander Mountain had this org posted in the lobby. After reviewing the 'normal' local classes required to submit a permit to the local (or adjacent) Sheriff's office I looked at these guys for classwork also.

If I read it right...looks like a loophole type class. Not necessarily bad, but a loophole path nonetheless.

Any thoughts from ya'll? Be great to get done in one day but if there's problems/delays/short comings associated with it...would love to know what you think. I really don't need the range time but....

TIA

I'm slow to the party on all this so ya'll may have answered it 100 times before.

Anyway - checked out Non-Resident Utah and Fla licensing class. Legit.

I didn't see your post here. I don't know how it is in Ohio, but here the classes through the sheriff's department are the best ones to take. At least through ours. Some of them aren't good at all, but the one here in Knox county is really good. Even better than the private ones offered by far. Get some local input is all I can tell you. I don't know what your laws on what's required is, so I can't tell you much. Good luck.

Thanks Preacher!

I ended up taking the non-resident Utah class which for another $20.00 gave me the Florida non-resident paperwork.

Class was $125.00, 4 hours, with no range time. I'll do range-time with a LEO buddy but it was not required.

The reciprocals are so strong the Utah permit gives carry privilege in 28 states, adding the FLA makes 3 more.

You have to take a class? All I had to do was fill out an app and get finger printed and go through a back ground check.

dang, 28 states? We only get 23...

Yea...Ohio permit classes are 16 hours. Cost $125-$200 range fees to $100.00. SO average - 2 full days and $300.00 + permit costs.

That's why I spent my $125.00 for non-resident Utah and added $20.00 for Fla's.

Utah Non Resident fee: $67.50 (good for 5 years)
Florida Non Resident fee: $117.00 (good for 7 years)

That's pretty cheap. Mine was like $267 for the first time (cost for the application, finger prints, etc) then $75 every 4 years. My class was free, usually people have to pay about 60 bucks for them though.
