I am in the market for a pup. probably a yellow or black lab. The last obstacle is my wife, and she wants a number.

"how much?" she says.

I have never really thought about the cost, as it does not matter to me. how much on average, would you say one spends in the first year, and then yearly/monthly after that.
I'm talking everything, from training tools, collars, shots, the dog.
I would like a good dog from a good line.

Steer me in a good direction.

Thanks

The dog is from free to a few thousand The feed is easy figure 40 bucks a month or less shots 30 or so collars a couple bucks traing supplies varyies depending on what you want You dont need every high tec thing on the market Most of which IMHO is BS Fetch toys and a whistle at most 100 bucks A travel crate 60 Then the cost of real training birds A couple of bucks each They are not that expensive The dogs I mean to own Buy quaility dog food I like black bag gold and good clean water exercise And you will have no problems Good luck

I don't know what your wife will dislike the most. The intial price of the dog or all the toys that come along with it. I look at it like this, the least expensive thing you will buy is the dog itself no matter what the cost is. You have to feed, vet bills, crate, training toys etc. I will try to break down my dog cost for you to help you out and I am not throwing dollars at you to scare you away.

Dog $500
Crate $60
Food $30/Month
Collar $300
Vest $30-50
Dog Stand $180
Dummies $10-50
Vet $30-80 depending on the visit, I have to keep mine on flea med all year because of where I reside.
Misc toys $100

I know if you add all this up it seems like a lot of damn money, but I have accumulated this stuff slowly. I also was able to work alot of it off because of the kennels I worked at. Good luck with your search.
