Question about freezing birds for training

Postby Bhmduck » Sun Dec 11, 2005 4:11 pm

What method do you use to prepare a bird that you are going to continually thaw and refreeze for training?

Just what h20knine says , some ducks seam to last better than others I like ringnecks the feathers seam to be glued in.
I'm not as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.

I also use pigeons even though they don't last as long but I can get a few months out of them.

strech out the neck

Postby Jay Jolicoeur » Mon Dec 12, 2005 5:38 pm

When I stick them back in the freezer I try to remember to stick their necks out that way the dog will have something to grab while they are still duck sickles.

frezzing test birds

Postby 2 tollers » Thu Dec 15, 2005 4:15 pm

I try to keep early season birds. With less fat they last longer. Wrap in newspaper and then in individual bags. No problem re-frezzing same way after land marks for 3 to 5 sessions of hand throws. 1 good session for water marks and it is a tracking bird. Using a winger will really limit re-use.
