Some pic's of my 2 Tollers at work this fall. Mic has white blaze & is 1 1/2 she is bringing out a wounded grey from a long across water - land - water retrieve. Duff has the red face and is 2 - he is on the water triple of greenheads. The young lady is my daughter on a Nov hunt.

They are really beautiful dogs! How well do they handle the cold?

Tollers were originally bred for market hunters on the eastern shore. They have a double coat (heavy under coat) and webbed feet. The pic of duff on the 3 drakes is a duck shoot on a creek with spots of open water and rest frozen. We had 16 birds on 2 days all icy creek water.
The combo shoot on white, grey geese and mallards was on a large pond 50% frozen in a barley field. Of the 18 birds, 4 birds were land and rest were water (varying 30 to 80 yds). They do not have a problem in cold water but are not big / strong like a chessie or lab to break ice. They have brought back geese in the 14 to 16# range to hand on water retrieves. For land the largest I have tried them on is 8 to 12#.
