We worked on my pups range today, she ranged well getting out around 50-75 yds and searching she ended up finding and pointing her first 2 wild birds today pretty stoked!! Looks like my efforts may be paying off, just need to keep at it.

Yesterday we worked in more of a formal OB setting with "here" and "sit". We've been at working the "here" quite a bit. It's funny how a dogs mind will focus when they are given a few fun bumpers. Everything seems to be paying off!

I'll try for some pictures or a video tonight, mayb get the fiance involved.

Just about every morning we work on here, sit, and heel, with 6-8 fun bumpers to break it up. We took this morning off from training since it rained last night; all the new smells after a rain puts my pup in a very playful mood so I just let her run around and play with my other dog instead.

Monday we did our second live bird introduction. View My Video

Ran 5 land blinds using real birds, then ran 3 water blinds with the two dogs running this weekend. Yard work with the rest of the hellions. Walking fetch with 2 and FTP with one. Swim by for the choco dog. Gun dog got some easy doubles as it was getting hot by the time I got to him. Water blinds and marks tomorrow morning for the big dogs then it's off to the HT in the afternoon.

Worked on swimming, with her new dog vest. When we got to the pond, pup had only ever swum about 30 feet total, mostly by accident playing with other dogs. Loves the water, but didn't seem to really think she could swim. Tossed the bumper in the shallows, then a little deeper, with me out in the deep stuff coaxing her. Pretty soon she was taking flying leaps and swimming all the way across the 50 ft. pond.

Long multiple marks. I do as many as six at a time. Then some fun bumpers. It's a daily routine. Stretching the marks to where they drop into a ditch. That means they are somewhat like blind retrieves. I like to work the challenges up a bit.

Sometimes during "fun time" I'll throw a bumper but toss one in the opposite direction while he's fetching the first dummy. That's about as close to doing 'blinds' as I get.

Has been cool lately so I'm out every chance I get before it gets too hot for working a dog. Twice a day sometimes.

Circumstance has kept us too house bound for too much of the Spring, so now that we've a bit more breathing room, it's conditioning, conditioning and conditioning, so the coyote goes into the heat of Louisiana Summer in shape to come out of it still pretty much ready to work in September.

Couple 250 plus blinds, ABC drills and put up a little senior land series. Couple buddies heading to Nebraska this weekend for a senior test. Earlier this week ran a lot of bird in mouth singles, poison bird drills and 16 bumper wagon wheel. This week probably run some water stuff. Chinese bumper drill and some along the shore blinds with long entrys.

We took the morning off and just went for a nice long 2 hr walk, Gauge is just 4 months old so need to be a puppy sometimes. Went to a wetland area and watched and listened to some geese make some noise. We will go to the field later today to work on some puppy retrieving and here.

Well today, at lunch, we just had a few fun bumpers out to about 25 yards. We're getting over a few sick days. Vommit and diarrhea are no fun. Time to put back on a few pounds and get back after it.

Two big things:
I brought my my 20 week old choc. gal to a pro that is working with us both in training lessons. As in he works with her and with what I need to do with her. It was a big help having the better experience see her. He knew what she needs work on and how to do it.

And we introduced her to birds today! She did great! Six retrievers with the dead pigeon and she would've gone for more.

I'm pretty happy but I know I've got a long way to go still.

It's hot. We ran a few singles with a poison bird thrown in in the first one. It was ugly but we survived. Ps, poison birds suck

Was the old Brittany's morning in the country, and he didn't go fast, but he did go far. Hoping to enjoy our 16th hunting season together this Fall.
