First Hunt Test For Ms. Moon

Postby Ducaholic » Thu Apr 18, 2013 12:06 pm

Labman63 is going to run her this weekend in hopes of making two successful passes in her first hunt test. Moon was 1 year old yesterday. Here's to wishing Ms. Moon and Labman63 luck this weekend....

Had some tough luck today. Ms. Moon was distracted at the last second and missed her mark. She eventually was able to make the retrieve but got to wide in the process. Hopeing for a successful pass tomorrow.

labman63,
Can I assume that Mrs. Moon is out of Clint Joyner's stable.... "Big Boy" (Carolinas Half Moon)? If so, she's got an outstanding background. Congratulations on a helluva purchase on a pup. My three year old is out of Clint's Smoke on the Water ("little man")

OOps, just saw the breeding at the top.....

Just got the word from Labman 63...Moon had an outstanding weekend smacked both land and water marks Saturday and Sunday. That's three successful passes this season.

Moon will run again on the 1st and 2nd of June. She is coming on strong!!!

Once again, Dave, would you be interested in selling Dash? I've got a client who is looking for a finished dog before duck season. He's normally a black female lab man, but I may be able to swing him to a male yellow w/ a quality bred lineage. He just lost his black female and is ready for another. He would want you to finish Dash with him having the dog during duck season. I haven't spoken with him yet but he has asked me to find him a dog.

PM me with your thoughts so I can have some ammunition before I approach him with recommendations.

Thanks,
Bob

Thanks...I'm going to do my best to not screw up what Dave has been able to accomplish...

Dave ran her again this morning and Moon was one of only two dogs to pick up all 4 birds clean. Dave said it was the toughest JHT he has seen to date.

The test this morning was a doosey. Live flyer at 125 yrds in heavy cover and the next bird was about 85 in heavy cover up on a sight rise. Most dogs either handled or had big hunts on the 2nd bird. The water series was both marks ran thru heavy lilly pads with those dang white flowers on them. Night and day different test than Saturdays. Moon had a bit of a hunt on the flyer but came up with it and had a short hunt on the 2nd bird. She got out a little early and had a short hunt on the short water mark but smacked the long water mark. If you passed that test you earned it for sure. So Moon got her title plus an extra pass.

Well guys the time is here. This time next Sunday Moon will be traveling SW on the long trek back to Louisiana to begin her life's calling as a Louisiana duck dog.

I'll be leaving very early Friday morning to make the 12-14 hour trip to NC to pick Moon up and spend the weekend with Labman63 and his lovely wife to get a few tips in order to sustain what Dave has been able to accomplish before heading south.

The kennel is done. The training tools are bought. It's just a matter of time now.

Very excited!

Whatever you do, do not play him in cornhole. He's a sleeper in that game, have fun out there it will be a blast.

Don't think you'll find many Louisiana boys willing to play cornhole.

Obviously, one of the hazards of that game, down in Louisiana, is the constant bending over to grab your bags. Too much of a temptation, I'm sure!
