Mine was selected for me. At first I was pretty put off. Waiting 11 years for a new dog and I don't even get to pick which one??? Plus I wanted a male-which there were only two in the whole litter-so my choices were pared down quickly. My requirement was facial furnishings. And the other male had minimal beard. So there wasn't too much thought into it.

But my pup seems to fit me so far. He is Balls Out, Wide Open. But when he looks at you and stops he will put his head in my hands and instantly chill into a quiet and respectable pup.

I like the dark heads. Vote #1 as well based soley on looks.

HAHA I know right. I was the same when he said he likes to help guide people to the right dog depending on what they want. After talking to him and talking to his references over the past year or so, I've gained a lot of trust in his decision making. I want a dog that works relatively close and checks in often, low maintenance etc. I'm not wanting a super high strung, head strong dog to fight with. Plus with what we have to work with terrain wise, there is no need for a big free running dog for me.

P.S. I told him the same on the beard though! I said this may sound stupid, but I want a lot of furnishing

Picked her up last night...I'm tired!

She's a sweety - disposition so far has been really good. She slept through the whole night and no accidents in the crate in the morning.

Ya pits. They are both hams and happy to have a new pup around. She follows our male (the one licking his paw) around like a shadow...it's great.

HAHA ya - I had to make a decision because of the timing on picking her up - I had first pick but was gonna be the last person there due to scheduling. I had a few long talks and he said "This is the pup I would pick if I was picking a female" - so we'll see!! As a side note, I do like her body marking a lot more; and she had a lot more beard and facial furnishings than the others. They were smoother coats like a Kurzhaar.

Went out and did some gun noise desensitizing today. Also played around a bit in the woods and swamp. She was very interested in bull frogs!

OMega,
Congrats! On the new puppy. Looking forward to seeing it grow up. Hope you show plenty of pics as it grows. I'll be picking up my griff in two weeks. It will be a 16 hour drive one way. Actually looking forward to the trip though. Cooler temps in Wisconsin than Oklahoma. :) keep us posted.

Thanks - I'll be sure to post of lots of pictures. My wife takes more than enough HAHA. Jeez 16 hrs will be brutal - you riding alone or have a partner to kill the time with?

I can't believe how much she's grown up in the week we've had her. She is a fast learner on basic OB so far.

When she's older that pool will be a great spot to teach he to dive for bumpers.

Still working on OB stuff. She's got sit pretty much associated. Getting kennel, down and has the idea of house training down. Still not to be trusted in the house but she's only 10 wks. She's intensely food driven which makes teaching things very easy. We did intro to water the other day - she had a blast. Have done a few days of intro to gunfire and loud noises, and last night took her to an OX roast for further situational desensitizing. Large festival atmosphere with live bands, lots of different people, smells and noises. Great for old people and young people, as well as meeting people of different races.

We've also been doing a bit of check cord work and walking on a lead. She heels extremely well, even last night during the noise and distractions. Have also done some informal retrieving work with paint roller and bumpers. She does a fine job. About the only thing that I haven't done yet that I want to is intro to live birds. I'm in the works of building a pigeon trap cage and have the ok to trap some for a local building. I just haven't been able to find any locally, and the only birds we have right now are pheasants.

There is another festival in two weeks that we are planning on taking her to as well. Tonight starts "Puppy Obedience" at the vet - it's an informal all around socialization and light training. The training is mostly for ppl that have never had dogs, but it'll be good to let her meet different people and they do some additional desensitizing with stethoscopes etc, weird objects (they have a list - crutches, umbrellas, different materials to walk on and over).

Haven't been on this one in a while...I've been posting in other threads. I did some memory drills for the first time last night. She picked it right up, which I was surprised at.

Kate heels pretty well now, knows sit, down, here all very well. We are working on firming up stay, but she's getting better. Other than that, we've done associations with birds, rabbits, swimming a few times and gun fire. We went for a long walk in the woods last night, she found a few old groundhog holes and was up to her back legs in them. I was also working a bit with walking away from her when she was interested in a scent, letting her range a bit farther. She would always check up and realize how far we were away, and think "oh crap". So that was good to build her confidence a bit

I also hooked up with a few guys at the local gun club that do dog training every Saturday. It will be good to have to people that are dedicated to training year round.
