dog training

Postby Vince » Tue Feb 03, 2004 10:20 am

Our lab is retreiving dead ducks with a very soft mouth, however, he is crushing any live ducks before he brings them in. Any ideas on how we solve the problem.

go back on the table and try to reenforce hold, means hold, don't chew, don't drop, and don't crush, use something that's uncomfortable to hold, a chunck of pipe, then try it with live pigeons, maybe wrap them with something that's uncomfortable to hold, wire, whatever, keep working it till he holds them firmly but gently, maybe that'll help.

Force Fetching!!!

Postby Mallard Mick » Fri Aug 20, 2004 6:56 pm

Put him back on the table and try having him hold a brush like a boot type or something with bristles on it and slide a couple fingers up into his collar and put your thumb under his chin tapping his bottom jaw and then petting him at the same time,It all depends on the age and how well he was force fetched in the beginning.Hope some of it helps you
