I personally don't have a dog stand but I have run my pup off of an avery ruff dog stand and from what I have seen it is pretty durable but the camo pattern if left outside will fade and almost look pink. but if put up when not in use it should do fine.
I just bought an Avery Ruff stand for my upcoming trip. Out in the yard on hard ground it's a little shaky, it helps to take your feet and spread the legs out tight.
It seems well built though. I'm not sure how they could get all the shaking out while on hard ground anyway, so I'm anxious to see how it performs in a few weeks when it's stuck down in the mud.
have had an avery ruff stand for about 7 years and they are a good stand. but for the money I would look at the one banded sells. there about 80 dollars cheaper and look well made.

after looking at this posting on this thread i started looking at dog stands and the new banded one has a mesh bottom which i like so water can drain off and out.
I have been using a Ruff for about 4 yrs, not crazy about it but it gets the job done. The pins will snag on brush and get ripped off if you go thru heavy cover.

I'm really surprised to see people recommending the Ruff stand. All I've ever heard of them is how unsteady are even after sinking the legs. Also the platform of the ruff stand is horrible with providing tracking after the dog has been in the water once. I've heard really good reviews thus far on the Momarsh Invisilab stand. http://www.cabelas.com/product/MOMARSH- ... 644028.uts
Very stable for even a friend that has a 90lbs dog without having to sink it very much in the bottom if your hunt areas with firm bottoms.

So that means you havent used one.. I'm no Avery fan and was a bit worried about buying mine years ago BUT there wasnt any other options several years ago Mine works fine, i like how portable it is, my dog is 91 lbs
A stand that is 2-4' tall with a dog sitting on top of isnt going to be steady!!

it is when the legs are shoved 1.5~2 ft. in the silt....
Also, there is a reason why mine is designed with a pyramid shape-most stable base there is.
Used the ruff last year and will find a different one before hunting my pup off it this year. The thing would flip completely over and I would have to go flip it back up numerous times.
I used the ruff stand for years because it was the only one on the market until the invisilab came out and I will never use or recommend the ruff stand again. The invisilab is light years ahead of anything else on the market that works both in the field and in the swamp.
I won my Ruff stand at a hunt party and used it during our first split and it worked pretty well. It was a little shaky but after I repositioned the legs and it settled in the mud it was fine.
I bought a Ruff Stand this year. So far I've used it in NoDak and Arkansas with decent luck. It is definitely wobbly on dry ground. When it's sunk in some mud it's not too bad. Still is a little shaky sometimes like when she shakes off water it will get to wobbling and I have to steady it with my leg or hand until it stops. It doesn't exactly give her the best confidence in the stand. The other problem I have with it is that it will hold water on the platform, so she has to sit in freezing water.
If you like the ruff stand you would love the one from webfoot kennels, the Dri stand. It's a bit less compact but way more stable and weighs about the same. I had the same issue the ruff stand tipping over as some other guys.
I second the webfoot kennel dri stand, got one last year and love it. My buddy that has a ruff stand and likes it, says his next stand will be a webfoot.
