Shed Antler Hunting

Postby schleutj » Sat Dec 07, 2013 4:58 pm

OK so season is over and it is freezing cold out. Normally my dog Carter and I are done hunting and we both have a tendency to get lazy over the winter months. Carter is 5 and he is my first water dog. He is not a grand champion by any means, but does what I want him to and am very happy with his performance while duck/goose hunting.

I was in Fleet Farm the other day and found a small book and some "smell" for taining your dog to shed antler hunt. I picked it up as it was not that expensive. I thought this would be an awesome way to keep us both entertained and more avtive this winter.

Before I start taining for this I want to make sure that I will not "mess up" the training we have done for waterfowling. I plan on teaching a different command to send him off on his search. Just dont want to train this and then find out that I messed things up next summer/fall.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Merry Christmas everyone

It will not hurt a thing. My dog does both.

I started him as a puppy on sheds and wings.
