Boykin Trainer

Postby dhudson29 » Tue Jan 14, 2014 12:36 pm

We got a boykin at Christmas. I am looking for a trainer to send him off to. I don't know what age they usually go but he is currently 9 weeks. Do any of you have any recommendations for trainers that have experience with boykins? I prefer te trainer be located within 4 hours of me here in Baton Rouge but if I have to go farther that can be arranged!

Beautiful pup. As far as trainers go, find a good retriever trainer. Boykins train exactly the same way labs or any other retrievers do. The process is the same, but the pressure/praise will have to be custom fit to the individual dog. A good trainer should be able to do a fine job whether they've trained a boykin before or not.

Good luck with your pup.

Dhudson29,

Where did you get your pup from. Wouldn't have been out of Northern Arkansas would it?

Great dogs, Boykins are. I looked at getting one a while back and the best references I found from talking with folks was Pam's Boykins in SC. She breeds and trains them and is highly regarded. Just Ducky Kennels was also highly regarded. Have fun with your new pup, they have some kind of drive and are great family dogs as well.
