english setter?

im lookingi nto buying an english setter for upland hunting,would it be a good waterfowl dog

PJ, I think you could certainly train a setter to be an effective ret., the question is not that . Instead , I would look how well the setter could withstand the rigours of waterfowling. For example, setters lack the hollow , insulating hairs that a lab possess as well as the down-like undercoat. Furthermore, do you really want to have to brush stinkin' swamp mud outta that long ,pretty setter coat ? Just a thought .

ya, those are some good points, but i was talking to one of my relatives, who has owned brittanys with long hair, he said theyd go through briars, burrs, everything, muck, and swamps, i asked him about brushing them, and he said that he never had to and theyd turn out just fine, i dunno, never owned a hunting dog, im trying to get advice from everyone
