Just curious what you guys are using on your hunting buddies for flea & tick, and heart-worm. I'm debating between an oral or topical on the flea & tick but every site has positive and negative reviews so what are you guys having luck with?
I use Heart Guard plus for heart worm and Frontline plus for flea and tick. Have never had any flea or tick problems. I used Trifexis on our new lab but upset my labs stomach and she threw up about 6hrs after I gave it to her both times I tried it so I always wondered if she actually got anything in her system. I also tried Revolution at Vets recommendation but I personally am not sold on that for tick prevention. I pulled ticks off that we're not attached on two occasions. I wondered why they give you a free tick collar when you buy three months supply. I hate using tick colors especially when we go to our camp and when swimming etc. and also having kids playing on her and around her all the time. We have used Heartguard and Frontline on our **** Zu for over 14 years and never a problem including going up to our camp. Her coat is worse to deal with than a lab for ticks!
Trifexis on our new guy, seems to be working with no upset stomach, older lab heart guard and Frontline. Seen Costco also has Kirkland brand heart worm and flea meds also
i use sentinel for all the worms and flea larva (oral) and then use k9 advanticks for adult fleas and ticks (topical) hear i can live with ticks better than other because the ticks we have here do not normally carry lyme but if i go in the NC or north i have been told to check since i do not get the lyme vaccination. not that i don't check for ticks.
we havent had a flea issue for 10 years with our dogs...well one wee lot after shifting to new house....grab some fennel and give dog a good rub down with it..waalaa fleas gone. it grows wild and if you have it by your kennels you will have to keep it in check as it goes/grows everywhere. can be used in cooking ducks etc too so multi uses
If you search there are dozens of responses to this same thread and for each brand. There are even methods to use non name brand products as well. Search.
Heartgard and Frontline plus since I brought her home, and have never had any issues. Started using it cause I had coupons, worked well so stayed on it. Guess the coupons did their job.
Switched from frontline to k9 advantix for some reason. the K9 is more gel like, doesnt absorb into the coat as well. Even applying it in 5-6 places like suggested its wet for days. After 3 weeks, i pulled 4 ticks off my boy.(can't see them so feel them after they are larger)
Even though I have 5 more k9 advantix I bought some frontline yesterday and applied it today for first of the month.
