Update on Gus

Postby HuntingWife » Wed Sep 28, 2005 10:49 am

Hey y'all,

As many of you already know, our 8-month old Springer Spaniel was run over Friday before last and had some cuts, a dislocated shoulder, and a traumatic injury to his manhood. I took him back to the vet this AM because he was still having a lot of swelling on the right side of his lower belly, and it turns out he has a huge inguinal hernia (more trauma from the accident and not from the first abdominal surgery) and has to have another operation today or tomorrow. He won't be coming home until Monday. Please keep a good thought for the little fella, as this will be his second surgery in a week.

Thanks,
Katie

Thanks for the good thoughts guys -- Keith and I really appreciate it. He's a tough little man, I know he'll make it through! We really miss him though.

Well, Gus had his surgery this morning, and it turns out it wasn't a hernia after all, but rather two large seromas -- big pockets of fluid that most likely came from the initial trauma and bruising of the accident. So now he has two drains in his belly to allow the fluid out and will have to keep them in for a week until some scarring occurs and we don't have to worry about him swelling up again. So we're still right on track him come home on Monday. Everything looks good, and hopefully he'll forgive us for subjecting him to two surgeries in one week!

Glad to hear everything is looking up for you guys. On a side note, thanks for spending the $$ to fix the dog. Some would not go that far

I know you're right, but I cannot imagine what kind of people those are. Our pets are our family.

Awesome to hear! Hopefully the wait for his homecoming doesn't seem too long. Good to see someone who actually cares about their dog!

It sure is quiet around here, and the silence sucks. We can't wait to get him on Monday. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

I took Gus to the vet this morning to have his drains pulled -- he's almost back to 100%! That is to say, he is once again running after the cat and deviling the life out of us with 7 incisions in his belly. And the best part is, we get to bathe him again! Seven nights at the vet and a bunch of rain have combined to make one smelly pup! Thanks again for all the good thoughts, we feel so blessed that our little guy has come through this ordeal like such a champ!

:salude:
