That is a lot of oil, its easy to not grasp how big of a spill it is because it is hard to fathom numbers as big as the ones involved in this disaster. It is very sobering to have it displayed for you as starkly as it is in that picture.
Do a barrel roll.

now-to put it in perspective, the long "ribbons" that you see is the medium chain emulsified oil...that is only 20% of the spill...
the large vast area -80% of it- is a light sheen on the surface that stretches WAY south of the well site...
but it is still a bad sight to see.....
