A place for people to discuss "do it yourself" projects from building blinds, to boats and everything in between.
1) the subject matter
2) asking a redundant question (searched and didn't find what I was looking for)
Here it is:
I am wanting to paint some decoys to look like coots. Does anyone have any pictures of decoys they have painted to look like coots and if so, how did you go about it?

I would think all you have to do is paint them black with a white bill.

I did this with some Flambeau mallards I had. I sanded the bodies down a bit, sprayed dark gray primer and coated with black. Coots have a slightly gray color to the black. They turned out looking pretty good and for the beak I just painted the front half of the bill white. Find old decoys and what have you got to lose!

I have done this, but used the old lead paint to do it. that stuff is like armor on a plastic deek! I just painted them black, with red eyes and a smaller white beak.
