new pit blind

Postby snc1100 » Mon Dec 02, 2013 11:37 am

im wanting to dig a pit blind in on marshy island with low cover but i cant find much info as far as the how to. i don't want a hole in the dirt i want to make some thing nice that people can enjoy hunting from. ive done some searching on here and haven't come up with much, but i was hoping someone could shoot me some pointers that could help me to avoid disaster. im not afraid to do a little trial and error and put the work in just was hoping for a little guidance. i believe a "can do" attitude and the slightest bit of give a damn can go a long way in diy projects. Thanks in advance for any input. hope everyone has a productive season.

A few things:
First, getting a few poly drums and cutting the top and bottom out will be a start...you can dig it in a little, then pound the tube into the ground and then begin to excavate, pound down, excavate, pound down etc....it wont rot or collapse, but if it's truly a marsh, you will probably have to bail it out each time you want to hunt...
Second, keeping water out...also keeps water IN...whatever you build will have the same issue as above..

You might consider partially burying a blind and using the spoils to berm up around the remaining part that still sticks up..you can grade it to slope so it's not so obvious, then plant it with grasses from the area...

slack tide: thanks for the info. Forgive me as i am extremely green to the pit idea but are the barrels like a single man pit or am i missing the purpose? Any ideas on where i can find them? im assuming they are 55gal drums? I really like the idea. seems cost effecient and effective. as for the other idea, the partially burried blind, can i build that from wood just like any standard box blind. ive built a few flaoting box blinds and a few standing but i have two spots on my radar that i need something lower. again thanks for the help. hopefully i can get something in the works during our split!
