Breathable waders / Cabelas or Lacrosse

Postby fanatic26 » Tue Aug 25, 2009 10:53 am

Im looking into the Cabelas Dri-Plus and the Lacrosse alpha swampfox. Anybody with experience with these two styles? Looking for early season boots but I heard you can wear them year round with proper layering. Looking for boots that dont leak and will hold up.

I have the LaCrosse Alpha Swampfox and I love them. They have held up so far. The only con that I can think of is the ankles are a little tight.

Just bought a pair of the Cabelas breathable. Didnt like the feel of the neopreme stuff and Cabelas products have always kept up with me.

I looked at all the product offerings for breathable waders and just yesterday ordered the Cabelas Dry Plus Breathable Waders ($179) with free shipping. The Lacrosse Swampfox were nice but did not fit my tall and bulky frame (6'4" 275), mainly the inseam was too short. Their return policy was a big factor.

Hope to have them for the early season. Definitely won't be used to break ice. For this I wear my Cabelas 1600 Supermags.

Just received my Cabelas Dry Plus waders (duck blind camo) in the mail. I take a SIze 13 EEE shoe so I ordered a 14. The boot fits pefectly for an easy on and easy off even with a 3 layer sock system (liner, mid-weight and wool over sock). The inseam is perfect for my 6'4" height and the chest is plenty big with lots of extra room (I go at least 275).

Haven't tried them in the water yet but they seem like nice waders. I like them better than the breathable Lacrosse Alpha's which did not fit me well.

I just used my new Cabelas Dri-Plus breathable waders last weekend for the Utah waterfowl opener. We had temps from 45-60 degrees with rain, hail and gusty winds. I wore underarmour and fleece pants under the waders and stayed warm and dry.

They were great!

i haven't used the Cabelas version, but i hear good things about them. I do use the LaCrosse waders and have no problem recommending them to anyone. This will be my fourth season with them and i have had ZERO issues so far. It gets cold here, but with the right base layering it isn't a problem. i do wish that they had a bit more insulation in the boot, but i just got mine a size larger and wear good wool boot socks.

i won't knock the Cabelas, but i can pretty much assure you that you will be happy as a clam with the LaCrosse Swamp Foxes.

I got the Warrior IIs from cabelas. Best of both worlds. Neoprene legs that stand up to abuse (broke alot of ice with them last year) and a breathable top. Only ones I could find with 1000grams in the boots also. I dont think I will ever go back.

I picked up the cabelas dri plus breathables last week at the Hamberg PA store. I'm 6'4 like some of you other guys and yeh they fit me pretty good. The quality seems to be pretty good also. Cant wait to use them for the mid Oct. opener. Thanks all for the info !!

I liked everything about that LaCrosse breathables, so I bought them. Hunted the warm half of last season out of them, and I loved everything about them. They have held up great so far. True, the ankles are tight but that's a good thing for the mud I hunt in. However, I still have yet to read a bad review on the Cabela's waders. All Cabelas waders are solid as a rock and their breathable waders have a great reputation, just didn't appeal to me. Just watch the fit and you can't go wrong.

This will be my 4th season in Cabellas Dry plus waders (same pair). I love em'. Being in California i've worn them from 90-ish degrees down to sub-zero up in Klamath. They're light and they wear well - still in great shape.

Depending on the weather, I'll wear them with either some compression long johns, or my polartec 200 liners for 'normal weather down to about 30 degrees. For the really coldays way up north I'll put on the longjohns and the polartec 400 liners.

I like the flexibility of just changing my liners to suit the weather.

Also, because they're light and they breath, you don't sweat your you-know-whats off getting back and forth to the blind... They've got reinforced knees and shins for trudging through the tules and buckbrush. I think the seat is reinforced too, but can't recall. Either way - this is season 4 and still no leaks.

I know I probably sound like a Cabellas commercial, but htey really did get these right..

Does Cabela's make the Warrior II anymore. It sounds as if several people have bought them this season, but I can't find them on the website. Do they go by another name now. :help:

Just spent the season in my cabelas dry plus waders and i think they are the bomb. I have hunted in 60 degree weather and 20 degree weather with ice on the lakes this year and have been comfortable and dry every time. They have held up to a bunch of ice busting, reed busting, duck chasing and goose slaying. Would recommend the cabelas waders to anyone.

I'm in the market for a new set of waders and have considered checking out those ones with the neopreme legs and breathable upper. I have a set of Kobuk 3mm/200gr boots (I think, heck if they are even lined at all) that I've had for quite a few years and not a leak at all. I like the fact that the breathables are light weight.. I'm just scared of punching a hole in the leg walking through tule patches diggin for a downed bird. heck I had a pair of expensive Sage breathables for flyfishing I bought last fall but didn't use till this summer over by Bridgeport.. 2nd day out I brushed the side of a rock and ripped the ass wide open. from what little bit that took to ruin those waders, I'm very leery of going that route for hunting.

I also have fly fishing breathable s. You cannot compare the difference between the Cabelas breathable s and the fly fishing ones. They are completely different in quality and durability. The dry plus are very sturdy.
