I'm just wondering if any of you hard core hunters grow a beard for duck season & do you think it helps camoflage your face or keeps you warmer?

yes my wife thinks I'm nuts, but i think I'm not alone in this insanity, well maybe crazy like a fox.

Frank, on sept. 1 I start the growth, with a few trims throughout the season. I shave Feb. 1 after the season. I do this every year and my wife can't stand it. The trims come into play w/ my birthday dinner in Oct. and Thanksgiving and X mas.

I believe it helps keep the wind off my ugly mugg and aids in camoing it.

also, I just like the hell out of it.

I am in beard mode. I wont be a member of ZZ Top anytime soon, but it helps keep some warmth in. I wish this doggone thing would stop itchin. Stouff..when you hit puberty you will know what I am talking about. And for that matter he is going to invade my state in a few weeks...batten down the hatches.

I grow a beard nearly year round, and trim it close in the summer. Lately I have taken to rubbing charcoal on my face when hunting ducks. It doesn't take too mcuh effort to clean off when done for the day.

I've grown a beard a time or two.....they always make me itch.....

BUT....I always wear a face mask. It's amazing how well a white face stands out in a blind.....

I went out one day earlier this year, and forgot my mask in the truck. My dad came by the boat launch I hunt in front of to check on me because of the weather, He could see my face, clear as day, from over a quarter mile away. I made a new rule this year that everyone who hunts with me wears a mask now. If they forget their mask or face paint, they can rub mud on their face or stay on shore while we hunt.

I went hunting with my brother and cousin...at least my brother listens to me.... I was the only one with waders, and the only one setting up dekes. Needless to say thier faces stuck out like a sore thumb. the next day my brother grabbed charcoal from the fireplace and applied it to his face. works wonders!
