Newbie here looking for some gear advice

Postby 2500hdon37s » Mon Jul 26, 2010 2:54 pm

got in to goose hunting big the last 2 years and some duck last year, i went with my friend, and he has some decoys and i have verry few decoys and the clothing, gun, waders, calls, and a jon boat with a go-devil. but we usualy hunt wadeable water on public land and fields so i was looking at getting a lay-out blind, the Interceptor eletie from Cabela's. im looking for insight on this blind because its no the bottom of the line model but not the top of the line and $$, i can get the one im looking at dirt cheap (new) and wonder ing what are some reviews on that blind and the herters floating decoys

Missouri, but what i hunt varies from on a river to a field, even the public land has holes that are in fields, some wadeable holes, and some you can run a boat in, and on my own land ive got fields (beans, corn, and pasture), and a wadeable lake just for waterfowl hunting with pleanty of places to put a layout blind.

and ive got a few places lined out to hunt that i will need a packable layout blind and i have tons of shells and such for dry ground hunting and where we hunt its usaly on the edge of a field and next to wadeable water so we would use the floaters just as much, im just lookin more for would someone recomend these products as i can get them the cheapest

thanks for the welcome!

Look at a Final Approach S.U.B. they are backpack type blinds that are very nice and durable its almost the same price as the cabelas blind you are looking at. If you are wanting to go with the cabelas brand I havent heard any issues out of them, and wouldnt be afraid to hunt out of one. There is a Redhead (BassPro brand) layout that has a built in neotub (allows you to place your blind in 10in of h2o without you getting wet) on it for a little more in the price but it looks to be built of lesser fabric than the FA or Cabelas brands. Getting the right layout blind is almost as important as buying a shotgun that fits you right, you have to lay in it when its cold as hell and you dont want to be confined to not having any movement.

see i can get the cabela's blind cheapest (friend gets huge discounts), and im not too worried about space as im a smaller guy, and where i hunt the water usualy isnt shallow enough to put a layout in, its usualy no water or its deep enough to wade, or you can find a spot to put a layout so im not worried about how deep of water i can sit in, just wondering if anybody has used the cabela's blind as ive herd good things about it and no real bad things.

thanks for your input!

A buddy of mine bought two of the Cabelas Mobile 1 Interceptor blinds 2 years ago. They are pretty decent blinds especially for the price you can get the at. We've shot plenty of ducks and geese out of them, so they definately do the job well. Personally I prefer a blind that is a little more rigid, ie. more of a frame/doors like the Interceptor Elite or an Avery Finisher blind (which I own 2 of). Its just personal preference is what it boils down too. If you have a chance, try to set a few different brands up in the store and lay in them. See what feels the most comfortable and which offers you the right amount of room inside for gear and such.

Thats good to hear! Everyone finds comfort in certain features and styles of blinds. I think the Cabelas brand makes a good blind, the ones I've seen up close (even hunted out of a few times) were made very well. I just realy like my Finisher's....but each gets you the same advantage to get close to the birds! Of all my hunts last season, I'd say a good 1/3 were from a layout blind. Ive packed mine a good ways w/ dekes and gear through shallow marsh water to set my neotube + blind, across mud flats, and onto gravel bars of the river (with and without the use of a boat!). I love getting super close to the action and the art of concealing you and your blind...its definitely a rush when you pop out of your blind w/ your gun thundering and seeing those birds back-peddling nearly right on top of you! :hammer: :grooving:
