Old Shadow grass, it was a good all-around camo.

I have to admit to liking the old shadow grass better than the new version, and the new version better than Max4 wich seems a little dark to my eye but certainly works. For bean stubble hunting this year, the go to pattern has been Natural Gear camo. Can a guy have too much to choose from?

I use both, I like the old shadowgrass a lot, but if you search around for a little while you can find the light Max-4 and it looks really good...

shadow grass works better of the two listed. But Advantage Wetlands seems to be the best here on the Texas coast in the marsh.

Personally, I like the original shadow grass better too, I think that the MAX-4 is just a little too dark. Someday soon, someone will nail it right on the head for best all around...Hopefully MOSG will wake up & smell the roses.

What do you guys not like about the new shadow grass. It took a little bit to grow on me, but after seeing it in the field this season, I think they hit the nail right on the head.

What can Brown do for you?

Postby macdaddy » Tue Nov 30, 2004 1:32 pm

Gentlemen, gentlemen - my eyes blurred as I saw the homage paid to these "designer camos". MossyGrassMaxVantage - the mind boggles! I swear by the old "brown camo"; noticed that the poll didn't include this! Yes, brown camo - or World War II camo, "universal camo" - it goes by many names - works well enough for me. Never had a duck or goose see me. If they flare, it's my fault, not the camo. It's cheap, works well (though lately a bit hard to find  ). Reconsider it, guys. It'll save you some money - & I;ll bet that the most "modern" of youns have some things in this old pattern. Don't lie - youns do.

I'LL AGREE WITH YOU MARK. I HAVE A FEW THNGS IN THE OLD BROWN DUCK CAMO. STILL LOVE IT. MAKES ME FEEL NOSTALGIC WHEN I WEAR IT, BUT THERE ARE NO MAJOR MANUFACTURES USING IT, I DON'T BELIEVE. I THINK COLUMBIA WERE THE LAST PEOPLE TO DROP IT. IF YOU KNOW OF A QUALITY MANUFACTURER THAT STILL USES IT LET US KNOW.

Shadow grass for me....and yes Mark I DO have some light weight coveralls in the green WWII pattern. I purchased it way back in 1992 to duck hunt early season in California when I was stationed there. :salude:

YUP, i like the old shadow grass, too. a buddy of mine swears by the old brown splotches, and there are times that that is the best camo pattern. i think old shadow grass is the most versatile though.

I own both MAX4 and a few items in advantage wetlands. where I have been, the MAX4 blends in most of the time, and there are times when I would probably choose Shadowgrass, I plan to purchase some at some point. However for all the people I've learned hunting from, many enjoy and still use the old brown marsh camo....but it's plain hard to find. I haven't yet found a single waterproof coat in the pattern, let alone a pair of waders. plus the MAX4 looks so photo-realistic to me, especially when its not the really dark kind.
