I would start with the "low" end stuff, just in case you don't like it.
These are good quality items just MAYBE not the best and they will save you some money.

Gun= Beneli Nova / Remington 870 (these are perhaps the best pumps)
Decoys = Green head Gear decoys
Duck call = Duck Commander "Reacher" / Rich N Tone "Quackhead"
Goose call = Fred Zink " Poly Power Clucker" / Foiles "Meat Grinder"
Knive = Gerber is a good company
Shot gun shells = Kent Fasteel

we need more info on where , how , what kind of bird. With out this info it is hard to tell you what you will need most (or more importantly, what not to buy!)

i am going duck hunting in southern louisiana with a friend who has also never been. we are going however with an experienced hunter as well. i just wanted some other opinions on what gun is best for beginners to hunting, but not to shooting. does the gun have to be cammo even though i am sure it doesn't matter and if anybody is from louisiana maybe they could give us a few pointers before we go so we will somewhat know what to expect.

your gun will need to be tough. not pretty or fancy or even new. The gun that you have will handle most jobs...I recommend a modified choke , camoflauge clothes , a good camo hat, and maybe a face mask until you learn how to look at the birds. most important .....do what the experienced hunter says...with out question . That is how most of us learned! enjoy

See if ya need waders, or, will knee boots do. Southern LA. doesnt get too cold, but, waders will keep ya comfortable, even if ya dont "need" them. Dont forget to pack some skeeter juice and sun block. A small flashlight is also very handy. A couple boxes of some Kentfasteel #2's and... Bust some ducks!
