10 Guage?!?!

Postby CrackerJackShot » Tue Feb 21, 2006 3:25 am

Ok well Im REALLY looking for a 10 gauge but have a low budget. Ive been looking but so far I think the only manufacturer that makes a 10 gauge is Browning. Is that right? Does anybody have suggestions for looking for a 10 at up to $350? Thats really about the MOST I can pay. I dont care if its used. As long as its RELATIVELY new and still operational.

There are some over and under and S x S ten gauges that are imported. They for the most part are poor at best. I think American Arms makes a over and under but its priced at about $600.00. As I have said in the past a 10ga is NOT a 12ga. They are made from steel and there are no aluminuim alloy recievers or parts in a good 10ga. So ones that will go the distance will be pricey. But if you do not get a good one you will just be disapointed in owning one of lesser quality.

My dad had a Remington SP-10... that was VERY smoooooth swinging 10 gauge semi auto...would cold roll em WAAAAAYYY out thar....think he paid around $800 for it new. I had a BPS 10...a lug through the marsh, and, took a little more time ta clean, but, a waterfowl death dealer fo sho... Think she was around $600 new. You will need ta save up, or, your buying used. I have been VERY satisfied with my Nova and 3.5" loads... $299 new

yeah nova is what I got. Oh yes of course im buying new. Ive seen the prices of all the new ones. I cant match that. I just want like a well used Browning BPS Stalker. They seem alright. I WOULD like to shoot one and try out the bottom ejection thing and it would probably take a lil bit to get back used to the top tang safety. And the weight isnt a problem. If you carry it enough you just get stronger!! I dont care if its used. I just want one!!!

I never had a lick a trouble from my BPS...money ran low and I had ta sell her a few years back. I bet you could find a used one under $400. I have an old Rossi SXS with the top thumb safety as well, VERY comfortable for hunting situations. The recoil of the BPS is not bad due to the wieght of the gun. The shells are expensive and harder ta find a selection of. I was using a high dollor 2 shot 6 shot mixed load that flat out punished dux. I used T shot for them honkers, and, busted them up good as well. I saw a case of some #9's at gunbroker to be used for skeet...that would raise an eyebrow or two at the sporting clays...KABOOOOM

You will need to have the gun shipped to a FFL liscense holder for a small fee. Seems they supplied a list by state of dealers that can handle the shipment for you. I know a couple guys that have bought guns through them with no compliants or problems. I had the wood BPS with geese engraved on one side of the breech and turkeys engraved on the other...A good looking and fuctional gun by all measers...Good luck

Search BPS on Gunsamerica.com
they should have some reasonably priced used 10 g. pump guns for sale.

Launch bigger payloads at faster speeds with less pressure. All in all its just a better deal. Plus I just want one. I have always wanted one for some strange reason.........

First of all again a 12ga cannot compete with 10ga ballistics..for those of us who did not purchase 3 1/2" guns when they first came out....decided again that if I needed a 3 1/2" 12ga then just buy a good reliable gas auto 10ga. So if I need "Knock down power" I have the best there is in a 10ga.

Crackerjack, Just be patient on these auction sites and one will come along in your price range. I've hunted with a 10 gauge my entire hunting career and there is no doubt that it is far better than a 3 1/2" 12ga. Especially if you reload. I've always toted 2 guns to the blind if possible, The 10 ga for those passing shots or birds that wont commit and the 12 for decoying birds. My first 10 ga was a single barrel H&R which you can still find for around $150.00. Next I had a Richland SXS that folded em up but weighed as much as my truck.... Then a BPS stalker, never any problems with that one. Now I own a Browning Gold Lite 10 in camo.

I've seen plenty of used 10 ga BPS's for $350.00 on the broker and also check out Auctionarms.com

i got my 10 on gunbroker. u have to do weird searches to find the ones u can afford. try just searching "10" and add -12 or - whatever it is u dont want. the - feature will narrow it down without getting rid of the ones u want.

people dont know how to post things correctly and they dont come up in a search for a specific word.

like mine was listed as.....
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=41703572

see how its listed as a zabala 10g? 10g without a space means that if u search for 10, 10 ga, 10 guage, 10 gage etc it doesnt come up in any of these. noone ever bid on mine and at 1 day left i offered him 350 in an email and he cancelled the auction and sent it out to me. they usually sell in the high 400's or more, but not if nobody bids..... it was unfired and in near perfect shape when i got it :)

try shearching each word of the gun type u want by itself (like "browning") and scroll thru or "-" out the others in the list u dont want.

buy now for 375:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=44221031
buy now for 349... and it accepts 2 3/4, 3 AND 3 1/2 shells!! haha what a deal!!!:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=44313213
a camo one for 385:
http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewIt ... m=44482329

u get the idea

also, if u do get a bps and the 3 chokes dont come with it, let me know because i have em for it and would sell em to ya cheap. i/c, mod, and full

I just could not stay out of this. I know how it feels when you want something and nothing can change your mind but from the little research that I have done you would be much better off purchasing a 12ga. The shell options far outway 10ga options. From what I have found you can actually get larger payloads in 12ga shells. If you are just after the bore you could just buy a 835 ulti-mag.

u can get 3oz lead 12 ga shells? hmm havent seen em. how bout 1 3/4oz steel? that doesnt even fit in ur 12. dont give him any more of this bad advise. a 12 ga 3 1/2 gun is no 10 and its no good as an upland gun either. soooo whats it good for? why waste ur money on it when the 3" does the exact same thing. a friend of mine has an 870 super mag and he shoots my 2 3/4" reloads for steel...... wonder why? 1 1/4oz of steel at 1500 is the same whether u have a long chamber or not. a 12 is a 12. perfume a pig all u want....... (thats a figure of speech, dont take it as me callin the 12 a pig, its not....nor is it a 10) :)

my 10 patterns wonderfully at 45 yrds with 1 3/8oz of steel 4's going 1700. it also does better than ur 12 with anything bigger than that. nor does it smash ur face off like the 12 ouch

No you can't get 3oz lead in 12ga but I do shoot 12ga 1 9/16 steel 3.5in shells at geese. The patterns are related to bore size and the 835 ulti-mag has a .773 compared to the 10ga .775. The recoil is related mainly to the guns weight and I can honestly say that I don't remember the last time I noticed recoil while hunting.
