Franchi 912 Variomax Problem

Postby ssharpe01 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 12:20 pm

Big problem with my 912 Variomax. It will NOT eject or cycle 2 3/4 light load. It has cycled them in the past but now not at all. I have clean the gun to brand new condition, oiled it, done everything I know possible, the slide wont even open at all. Dove season starting in 5 days and i'm in a bind. Any suggestions????

Take the gun apart and check the action bars that connect to the bolt and make sure one of them has not broken, always make sure you flip the gas piston for the correct shells. if you have any more info post it up and maybe we can help?

sounds like you lost the rubber o-ring that seals off the gas system. they tend to rest against the barrel lug and fall out when you take it apart to clean it.

Last night I took the entire gun apart for the third time. All parts are accounted for and not broken. I cleaned in once again and I am going to shoot dove on Sunday for the first time this year. Nothing has changed from the last time I tried but maybe a miracle will occur. Help me out if you guys have any more ideas!!

The gun was cleaned spotless. It really feels like the action is just too stiff. It is made for 3 1/2" so that makes sense that it should be stiff. But, it doesn't make sense that I should have to buy high brass dove shot either...I'm thinking of selling the gun but not real sure yet

my 912 will cycle and eject any crappy dove load I put into it....including winchester universals. However, i got it in trade from a guy who said it woudn't cycle anything (he had lost the 0-ring)

this link isn't my gun....but one just like it, pretty simple system. Have you pulled out the trigger group? maybe the shell carrier is in a bind? http://flic.kr/p/5Awddd

Same with my gun it will shoot just about anything I stuff in it, Try cleaning the gas ports (the holes in the Barrel) and clean the chamber, it could have crud melted inside it. make sure you shoot good shells to, not junk loads and make sure you have the gas piston set correctly!

Thanks guys. I'm going try it out on Sunday and see if it works. If not I'll check it all over again.

i bought a bag of 25 of them off ebay for cheaper than i could buy 1 from Numrich. you just need to make sure you get the heat resistant kind.....a plumbing (#33)one will work, but it won't hold up like one designed for higher heat.

this is what you want

Check your action spring in the stock, if its too stiff those light loads wont produce enough gas to cycle it.
