72 browning auto 5 sweet sixteen choke

Postby DuckmanOK » Tue Jul 02, 2013 10:25 am

Hey guys,

I am looking into what type of choke this is on my a5? Is it the browning invector type threads ? It has a polychoke deluxe adjustable choke on it. I assume this just tightens up all the way then slowly unscrew it until desired choke size aiming arrow toward sight? Thanks for the help. My grandad would be happy it's still in use. :-)

No it is not Browning invector threads. Those are part of the Poly assembly. Invector threading came much later and are inside the barrel. All it will ever be is a Poly unless you cut the whole thing off and have choke tubes installed.

That would be the deluxe poly choke. While very functional it reduces the value of the gun by $100.00-$150.00.

I had a Poly choke put on one of my 3" 870's that , I had backbored to .740 and it works pretty good with steel shot .
It is very flexible as , when you're in the field you can rotate it to the constriction you think you are going to need on
in-coming birds . I have found , if you pattern your gun with the load you like and see what setting shoots best at
different distances , then mark that spot on the choke adjustment with finger nail polish , this will give you confidence
and allow you to see it in the low light of early morning , with a glance !Make sure you clean in between each gap of
the choke each time you use it , otherwise it won't work right .

Old guns are Best if , left alone !

Thanks . I am not trying to sell this bad boy. It was just a g fathers and I remember him taking me dove hunting when I was a kid with it. I still have my 410 the same day he bought the auto 5. I called browning and they did a little research and found a ton of info on it from stock. I think I have a pic of us hunting 20 years ago. Anyways, thanks for the info guys. Good luck this year . September 14th (oklahoma) isn't too far way
