How did you conduct your experiments? Using one gun with a 24" barrel, another with a 26" barrel, another with a 28" barrel, etc. will not give you reliable results....too many variables.
If you started with a 30" barrel in Cylinder choke, then cut off an inch at a time, and shot at least 10 test patterns/chronys with each length, you might have reliable results, but not many guys are willing to sacrifice a barrel just to experiment like that.
Your post would indicate that going from a 30" barrel to a 24" barrel would cost you almost 12% in pattern density. I find that hard to believe.
No turkey hunter would give up that much pattern density in their short-barreled shotguns.
