Flat ribs on nice guns?

Postby stealfeathers » Sun Jul 28, 2013 6:20 am

I would love an a5, or a berreta but I can't seem to get used to the flat rib. Seeing that much rib distracts me while shooting. I see a little rib to shoot center on my raised ribbed gun but on thes flat ribbed guns I don't see how you shoulder it the same every time. How much rib do you see on your flat rib guns to get a center pattern?

If the gun fits you ( the stock adjusted for proper fit ) as you mount the gun , your master eye is looking right down
the center of the rib , with the beads stacked , the gun should be shooting 50/50 but , the mount of the gun has to be
the same , each time ! This pertains to low or high rib guns .

People that wear RX glasses ,sometimes , benefit from higher ribbed guns !

I see little to no rib when my shotguns are properly mounted. My line of sight is parallel to the rib out to infinity.

With a gun like that you can hardly miss a bird , if it gets close enough , don't black guns scare birds ?

Or , is it best to use it in low light conditions ?

I've always found it ironic that serious clay shooters always say that if your gun fits, the rib shouldn't matter......but most of them shoot fitted guns with huge (sometimes adjustable) ribs. :lol3:

I never-much cared for adjustable ribs , even tho wearing RX glasses it does help to keep the center of your eye in focus .
With your head up-right , you have better perception of distance and being relaxed you can rotate your hips when you swing
the gun in each direction .

My hips normally start moving when Crows fly over , getting ready for Waterfowl season .

X2. Find I shoot best with my plain barreled Wingmaster with no rib. And cleaning the outside is a breeze, just grab it with an oily rag and pull.

Ribs are more useful for clay target shooters than for hunters. In the games where you are allowed to pre-mount the shotgun, you can use the rib and bead(s) to confirm that the shotgun is mounted correctly and that your eye is aligned with the way you have set up the shotgun for proper pattern placement. Then, you call for the clay bird... -Ed
