Side by side, both barrels firing.

Postby stut8500 » Sun Aug 18, 2013 2:23 pm

I've got a side by side where both barrels keep firing when I pull the trigger. Double trigger hammer less. Any ideas?

Trigger linkages hung up/gunked up? Worn sear on one of the barrels? Are they firing at exactly the same time or are they staggered ever so slightly?

Same time. The piece that keeps the hammer pinned back while it is cocked, then the triggers push it down allowing the hammer to move, face that matches up to a groove on the hammer is worn. It's a Springfield Savage model 511. If you know where I can get parts, or what that piece is called; let me know please. I attached a picture of my shoulder when the gun decided to surprise me.

After research the part is called a sear. I can't seem to find any online for sale. Any ideas?

Your best bet is to take it to a good gunsmith but be aware you may have more in repairs than the gun is worth...unless it is a family piece with sentimental value.

It is not worth taking to a gun smith. I got it for $200.00 bucks because someone chopped the barrel of at 18". It just sits next to my bed with buckshot in it. Thanks for looking up those parts! I couldn't find them. I really appreciate it.

Your response make no sense, how could you not find them when I gave you the link.

...before you posted the links I couldn't find the parts(that's why I was thanking you)...the link is dead because I purchased them.

Anyone know how to compress a mainspring and plunger, allowing me to get the hammer in place?

I have a 12ga 3inch mag Zoli S X S with a single trigger that never caused me a problem. Then 1 early morning standing awkwardly in mud and contorted to shoot a G.W. Teal breaking to my right I pull the trigger and then CABOOM! Both barrels with 3 inch shells went off simultaneously knocking me down into the mud. Ouch! Especially my finger that rests behind the trigger guard really took a beating. And it jarred the heck out of my shoulder. Don't know for sure what caused it but it never happened before or since. My friend sure got a laugh out of it. And by the way, I got the teal. LOL!
