Beretta extrema2 or A400 Extreme?

Postby chadkru » Mon Aug 26, 2013 6:55 pm

I am pondering the thought of a new gun this duck season. i have a SBE1 that i bought new in 2000 that has worked tirelessly for me for all these seasons, but after last season, it might be time to upgrade. i was thinking about going to beretta, but i have heard good and bad about the new a400. just wondering what anyone elses opinions on these guns. Which of the 2 would you buy? What are the highlights of the two?

Don't see how you could go wrong with either one.
I have an Xtrema2 and I want an A400......just because I like shotguns.

And, yes, a Beretta is certainly an upgrade over a Benelli.

I think this question depends in large part if you want a heavy or light gun. Extrema2 = heavy, A400 = light. Shoulder both side by side, you'll see.

I was really excited about the A400 and I have a 391 Urika2 so I thought I'd really like it. After shouldering the A400 I didn't like the balance or how it shouldered. Seemed too light to me, but my preference is toward heavier guns like my 391. I ended up with a maxus (which is still on the light side IMO) which I like very much so far.

If you like your benelli why not go with the Vinci?

Find a buddy that has the gun(s) you are looking at buying. Go shoot several rounds of sporting clays and see which fits you best.

I have benellis/berettas and I can tell you that the craftsmanship/durability/reliability of the two are almost identical ...especially if you maintain them and clean them routinely.

Each gun will throw up and fit you differently ...best thing to do is shoulder each one and run enough rounds through em to get a feel for each.

You know what they say...opinions are like ********, everyone has em and they all stink except yours ...

I and my hunting group put 2 flats of shells through mine this weekend at birds and class... Still in love with it.

I have owned the Xtrema 2 for the past 5 seasons and just bought the A400 Unico. The A400 Unico is a little over 1 lb heavier than my Xtrema 2. The A400 has a 3.5" chamber and has a 30" barrel, the Xtrema 2 has a 3.5" chamber and a 28" barrel.

My mistake, on their website they are actually the same for 28" but I felt like the A400 was really light compared to my 391 (almost whippy).

Actually on second look there's more info that says the "light" version is 6.28 lbs and the regular version (both 28") is 6.6 lbs. Then somewhere else it has 7.6 lbs listed. BUT this is the Xplor, not the Xtreme, that's why. Guess I didn't know there was a difference, now I do.

My A400 Xplor is 1lb lighter than my A400 Xtreme. The Beretta web sight is wrong, at least according to scales.
