Beretta AL 390 questions

Postby Madmooner » Wed Sep 11, 2013 5:12 pm

I'm looking at a used AL 390. Don't know a thing about them, except they seem well regarded.
The fella is asking $450. No case/box or extra choke tubes. Pretty good shape except some scratches in the receiver.

Anything to look out for on these?

Decent buy for the price?

Buy it now, the thing about finishes, they can always be reapplied.

That is a very fair price on that gun, regardless of scratches.

Thats a good price on the gun. I paid $475 for my Walmart version. That gun you are looking at is a little higher grade.

I bought it today.

Need a couple chokes. It only came with a full tube.

Do all 390's use the Mobil choke tubes? Any favorites?

My factory IC is my go to choke for duck hunting. 3" blue box federal 3s or 3" Fiocchi 2s pattern the best for me.

Yes, all 390s use the mobile aka ber/ben chokes.

Call Jeff at SRM (SureCycle) and ask him to make you a .680 Terror tube. Mine is on it's 13th season (mobilchoke system threads, as your new shotgun) and all I can say is this is one of the most consistent (patterning/killing) tubes ever strapped onto a barrel.

Stopped at the local gun shop and got a Briley LM tube. I'll shoot some paper this week and see how it does with a few loads. Might just rattle can it this week as well.

Btw- I'm in the wrong fuggin' business. Couldn't believe the price of choke tubes.

I paid $8.95 each for new Beretta brand Mobil chokes from Numrich last year. Never get in a hurry, shop around.

BTW, Congrats on the new gun. I stole a nice A 303 VR last year for $350. It shoots beautiful 60/40 patterns right down the gut.

I paid either $24.99 or $29.99? I figured the Brileys were gonna be more coin than factory chokes, but what blew me away were the $80+ dollar choke tubes!

***? I felt a little silly paying $20+ but it seemed down right reasonable next to the $80 dollar stuff!

Some folks love choke tubes and gimmicks, some of them actually work. It's just hard to separate what is real from the Mulder and Scully stuff out there sometimes. My experience with steel shot is a plain extended tube with a gradual forcing cone and longer parallel section work best with the loads I shoot. The tightest choke I shoot is a .modified in 12 gauge. In 20 gauge it seems to take more choke to make them effective.

It's the #1 semi-auto used in clay competition by a very wide margin.

And, it's also #1 for high volume shooting of doves in Argentina.
