Savage Model 24 in 12ga/.223. Never in history has another shotgun improved someone's ability to call ducks/geese/turkeys in close enough for a shot more than that one

No such thing. (BEST OVERALL)

The most popular shotgun in the world is easy to define. The one that sold the most copies. It's like Hollywood and counting ticket sales.
The most popular shotgun in the world is the Remington 870.

The best of the best? Again...based on opinion of each individual. You asked a horrible question and this topic is flawed.
There is no best shotgun in the world.

Aunt Betty don't mean to agitate any, but, the only reason the 870 is the most popular is, it was good quality at an affordable price, Id say most hunters wanted a A5,1100,Model 12 etc but didn't have .the money to buy one and being good quality and affordable bought the 870. When I think of best, I think of design, workmanship, quality of steel and whether the guts are stamped or actually machined. The Model 12 and Belgium made A5 are in my book a tie in these categories with the Model 12 winning out due to being a pump and more reliable

BTW I don't own either of them so I don't think I'm biased LOL

If you don't own either how do you know a Model 12 is more reliable than an A5?

I own different gauges of both and multiple 870s... It's still impossible to answer, it's all personal preference.

I'm surprise no one mentioned AH Fox or Model 21.

The machine work and overall smoothness of my Winchester model 50 is pretty darn amazing and the trigger pull is better than most of my rifles......and most of them have had trigger work done.

I agree in that choosing a "best" gun is impossible. If I had to choose a best for myself, it would be the Winchester Model 21 SxS. I don't have a Model 21 but have shot one many times. The Model 23 that I do own isn't too shabby.

hankyorke just because I don't currently own them doesn't mean I haven't owned them or hunted with them. Its a proven fact the pump gun is more reliable than the semi automatic. As for the 870 they are a fine shotgun and as I type this there are 3 in my safe, I do think the quality has gone down in recent years. I tried to be objective in my opinion that's why I listed the criteria for my choice. As for the Fox and Model 21 theyre fine guns as well but unfortunately most hunters cant afford them and again my choice was limited to guns most people can afford.

BTW between all the shotguns Ive owned Browning, Ithaca, Remington, Winchester, Weatherby, Savage, Stevens, Western Auto, Mossberg and SKB, My favorite is the Winchester Super X Model 1

Stevens 311 side by side. If you run out of shells use the 311 as a club. Well built!

Welcome to the gang 14-yr-old young man. Keep in mind that if you are careful and lucky, you might actually become one of the old men you despise.

My two cents: The one that works.

Recoil drive: Browning A5 (yes, the old one)
Gas drive: Remington 1100
Pump: Winchester model 12
O/U: How the crap should I know? I like having three shots.
S/S: see above
Single shot: You're on the wrong webpage

Feel free to continue stirring the pot.
I'm not saying that it shouldn't be done, I'm just saying it is ill advised...

Good guns, to be sure. However, depending on the purpose, I'd have to say either a purpose built Boss or Holland and Holland. And, by the way, they are all purpose built, usually for a specific individual. If you've ever seen and handled one, you'll KNOW what a best fun is. I have. Now, if only I could afford one! :lol3:
