Has quality improved on these? Had a supermag yrs ago I wanted to throw in a river. Two trips back to rem and I said to heck with it. Currently shoot a Gold, but love the feel of Remington's. Handled a sportsman at ****'s (don't turn those words around) and it felt and handled well. Do the 2 3/4 -3" have issues? How is the finish? Heard they will rust if you look at them funny. I was looking at the black synthetic model.
The 3" 1187's are pretty solid. Its basically an 1100 with a compansating valve on the barrel. I would have no issues buying one. I have an 1100 and no plenty who have 1187's. Biggest thing about them is they need to clean. You cant go all season shooting dirty burning steel shot in cold weather and expect not to have some failures. The gas system needs to be clean. All the 1187 bashing is generally geared toward the super mag. And typically the ones with issues are from pounding cases of 3.5's through them. However i no of some super mags that have not missed a beat. scott
The newer 11-87's are not as good as the older ones. I had a sportsman 12ga that was built in 2005, when I looked at new one a few months back I was really surprised at the lower quality. Stock was obviously thinner plastic with a big seam down the middle and the metal was really rough. IMHO there are better guns in that price range. Beretta A300, stoeger, franchi to name a few.
told my dad to get the outlander and when he went to the shop and he said hes shot a 870 wingmaster must of his life the said take the outlander it we feel about the same. he got it and really likes the gun
Not sure why anyone would consider an 11-87 sportsman over a Versamax sportsman which for a few more bucks is the way to go IMO. I am a big Remington fan and have a couple 11-87s which I still shoot with never any issues, but they are not sportsman models either. Versamax sportsman goes for 850.00 vrs about 700.00 for a 11-87 around here.
