26" on my Maxus but 28" on my Cynergy, which is almost as long as my Maxus.

+1.

I use a 28" barrel on my 12-gauge duck gun and a 26" barrel on my 26" duck gun. Both guns are Benelli semi-autos. Both lengths feel good with the scale of the guns, but the 26" 20-gauge is a little whippy compared to the 28" 12-gauge gun.
Benelli - Cordoba (20 ga. & 12 ga.)
Browning - 725 Sporting (12 ga.), Maxus (Hunter & MAX-4 Stalker)
Franchi - Renaissance (20 ga.) <-- For Sale. PM me.

The poll is kind a incomplete. Where are the 32" & 34" category.

I shoot a 32".

Had a 28" barrel 870 that I shot for years. Traded it for a benelli nova. When I sat the guns side by side the 870 looked about an inch or two longer. Till someone asked my if my gun was a youth model and it looked a little short lol. Turns out it has a 24" barrel. Kinda concerned me at first until I started shooting birds with it.. And they dropped just as easy as they did with the 28" barrel. I'll stick with it.

So like the guy above me said it's just personal preference. Whatever length barrel kills them is alright with me.

I've duck and goose hunted with anything from a 26in to a 36in.

But I normally use my 28in barrel Maxus.

Loved using my dad's 36in barrel 12ga single shot on geese!

Just saw one of them marlin goose guns at the shop the other day, i may only stand at 5'5 but that gun ( from the floor ) was nose lvl and shouldered like a musket. One old fella goes " them there were the good ole days " I couldnt imagine carrying something that ungodly long through a swamp would be like. Weird though it didnt have the barrel length stamped anywere  not the barrel not the reciever NUTHIN.

Unless you are using a reflex sight like I do, barrel length matters a bunch.

If you are using a reflex sight, barrel length doesn't make a difference.
Other than shorter is easier to pack and maneuver. And it's a lot louder.

If it wasn't for the noise, I'd readily go shorter than 24".
If I didn't use a Trijicon RMR, (mounted on a SpeedBead base) I wouldn't go shorter than 28".

I think my dad's is a Stevens' gun. shows some wear but its awesome! I never lugged it through the swamp, just from the truck to the blind on our duck lake.

I prefer a 26". It swings good for me and I like the extra 2" of clearance in the brush or layout blind.

24 in SBE II. ....Great Gun. Dosent get hung up on limbs and stuff as much. Points super fast. Kills high birds as well. Much superior to a 28 in the heat of combat. Close birds are doomed. Love mine. I think more and more guys will start shooting shorter barrels. I have a 26 in one as well. Had a 28 but got rid of it. The diffrence in how fast you can get on your next target between a 24 and 28 is night and day. I have killed several triples with the 24.

I was a big fan of the 26", however now I'm torn between 26" and 28" (keeping in mind I'm shooting the same gun). To my surprise, there is a noticeable difference.
