Your must have shotgun cleaning supplies?

Postby Ukcatshunter » Thu Feb 13, 2014 12:33 pm

Most of my experience is cleaning rifles and muzzleloaders.

Just bought my first semi shotgun the other day.

I know I need to clean it before use. Run a few patches to remove the factory gunk.

What lube do you recommend for the slide?

I also have a bore snake for the barrel. I used Montana X for my muzzle loader and break free with accelerant for my rifles for the barrel. Then put a few drops of CLP on the action and magazine/bolt.

What do you recommend for shotgun lube and general maintenance?

Don't like the "baking" aspect of frog lube.

You only heat it with a hair dryer if your using paste. You will notice doing so you will get a wax like covering in your gun. Completely waterproofs it as a result. Only do so when it is warm (off season) but it is nice to have the coating for duck season. Mine still has a coating from a year ago.

Liquid version is made for cold weather as well as warm (don't use paste version in the cold) and you apply it just like any other gun cleaning product. I really like the liquid version for year around use, however the paste is really good at deep cleaning because the gun is warm.

snakes are horrible, they really only clean out unburnt powder out of the barrel. Still leave all the plastic wad fouling behind.

A Dewey Rod of proper length and a brass jag. Cotton patches, toothbrush, Q-Tips, dental pick, pipe cleaners, small punch and hammer, solvent & oil of your choice (I prefer Shooters Choice & MilTech respectively), Lithium Grease, and a little compressed air.
